Austin-Healey was a brand of sports car that was established through a joint venture arrangement that was set up in 1952 by Leonard Lord of the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation and Donald Healey who was a renowned automotive engineer and designer. They produced cars until 1972 when their 20-year agreement between the two men came to an end.
In 1966, British Motor Company merged with Jaguar Cars to form British Motor Holdings. And in 1968, Donald Healey left the company while British Motor Holdings merged to become British Leyland. Donald Healey joined Jensen Motors who was now making the "big Healeys" in 1952 and became its chairman in 1972.
The 1965 Austin-Healey or the Austin-Healey 3000 was a sports car that was built from 1959 to 1967 by Jensen Motors for the Austin-Healey brand. The 3000 make was a very successful car winning a lot of European rallies in its heyday. It was supposed to be called the "Mille Miglia" after the famed sports car race but instead the displacement-based "3000" name stuck.
The 1965 Austin Healey was a 2-door roadster and had a FR layout. Its engine was a 2912 cc C-series. Wheelbase was 92 inch, 158 inch in length, 60 inch in width and 46 inch in height. Its curb weight was 2550 lb.
The Austin Healey being one of the famous cars that it is also gets featured in a lot of television shows and movies. It starred in animated series, The Simpsons in 1989 to 2008. It also starred in the movie, "The Thomas Crown Affair" in 1968, "Father of the Bride" in 1991, and "The Bank Job" in 2008.
Though there are efforts to recreate the Austin-Healey brand which started with Nanjing and Healey Automobile consultants/HFI Automotive signing a collaborative agreement, there is still no timeline as to when the famous sports car brand will return.
So as of now, while we wait for its return, we might as well enjoy this fast car by renting it at sports and classic car rentals in Las Vegas. Information widely abounds in the Internet. They have specific offers of their services and of the car models they carry.
So, when in Vegas, you may want to check one of these babies out or take them for a ride or two. Sure, you're no Thomas Crown. But Vegas lets you be one, at least for a day. There are no limits here in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
